Trend Research

Having decided upon the season for the designs (Autumn/ Winter 2016) trend research was conducted, finding the predicted trends for colour, silhouettes, textiles and print.
Research was undertook on Pinterest into different print trends as print is to be a big part of the outfit. The following image inspired the choice of the Chinese Porcelain print. Further research was undertook on WGSN to see if this wouold be an appropriate theme.

On the trend research website the China colour trend was found, mixing the traditional shades of blue and white with the added element of brighter colours such as orange. This idea could be taken forward into colour pallet for the brief, adding a more modern touch to the garments. Having found this it confirmed that the taking inspiration from Chinese porcelain would fit in the the up and coming trends in the selected season.

Old magazines were searched for inspirational images and possible links to the theme. The image above is from Harpers Bazaar 2011, showing the oriental Chinese style that was on trend in that year. This again gave confirmation that the people would be familiar with the trend and gave some designers and collections which could be researched for design inspiration.

Below is an image of the trend research board for the brief, outlining the two favoured trends found on WGSN - Artisian and Re-Master
